Mallik Tatipamula Receives Honorary Doctorate Degree

Dr Mallik Tatipamula, Chief Technology Officer for Ericsson Silicon Valley and advisory board member at LDTRC, received his Honorary Doctorate Degree at Middlesex University during the Graduation June 2024 for his contribution and services in telecommunications and related areas.

He has been at the forefront of the development of mobile wireless communications. He began his career at the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras – working on the rollout of India’s 1st fibre communication system. His career has since unfolded across important roles at Ericsson, Nortel, Cisco, and Motorola, where he has consistently driven technology innovations in telecommunications. Central to his legacy are seminal advancements in the industry’s major architectural transitions, from 2G to 5G networks, including adapting Internet Protocol for mobile communications, laying the groundwork for today’s mobile internet landscape.

In his current role as Chief Technology Officer for Ericsson Silicon Valley, he is responsible for driving their technological strategy. As a key part of leading this change, he is deeply involved in the cooperation between industry and academia, developing partnerships in US, UK, Canada and India for future technology innovations, especially in the areas of 5G, AI, and early 6G research. This has included pioneering Inter-Academy collaborations, especially between the Royal Academy of Engineering and other National Academies in driving international consensus and research cooperation in 6G.

A sought-after keynote speaker and advisor, Dr. Tatipamula lends his expertise to global initiatives such as the Commonwealth Artificial Intelligence Consortium, an international body dedicated to the safe development of AI.

He now works passionately to promote the next generation of industry professionals, mentoring over 100 undergraduate and graduate students. He has also co-authored 2 books and currently serves as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, and Honorary Visiting Professor at University of Glasgow, in addition to sitting on numerous other academic boards across the world.
