Description:
This project encapsulates the efforts of our team in leveraging advanced digital twin technology to enhance the building’s energy efficiency and sustainability. Through meticulous simulation and analysis using IESVE software, we have explored strategic retrofitting options that promise not only to reduce the building’s carbon emissions but also significantly cut down on energy consumption. Key highlights of the project include an in-depth analysis of the building’s current energy performance, the evaluation of three major energy conservation strategies (Heating System Improvements, Air Source Heat Pump integration, and Ground Source Heat Pump implementation), and recommendations for driving the Ritterman Building towards a decarbonization. Our findings underscore the potential for substantial energy savings and carbon emission reductions, aligning with global sustainability goals and reinforcing Middlesex University’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
The project aligns with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- utilizes sustainable energy sources
- promotes energy efficiency
SDG 9 : Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- adopts advanced digital twin technology
- optimizes building performance and resilience
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- reduces environmental footprint with digital technologies
- contributes to inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban environments
SDG 13: Climate Action
- significantly reduces carbon emissions
- implements effective energy conservation measures
Impact:
- Demonstrates Middlesex University London’s commitment to sustainability
- Serves as a model for sustainable development practices in academia and beyond
- Highlights the role of technological innovation in driving a sustainable future
